Zoom - Buzzwords

"Work pals who Zoom together, stay together." (taken from an article "36 captions for Zoom Meetings, not attributed to anybody in particular)

I’d never heard of Zoom before a few short years ago.
But in my teaching it became a thing I had to know.

It took about a week to learn, for I’m a little slow,
but after two years I can say I still am not a pro!

I made up terms: Zoom on; Zoom off. I only can suppose
that others working from their homes have made up terms like those.

These days I teach while in the classroom, yet up on the screen
are kids I bet are still in “jammies,” just their faces seen!

Some young adults opt to stay home. It makes things hard for me.
Games can’t be played when half the class is learning virtually!

Things can get crazy when somebody isn’t using Mute,
and you might hear some background noises not exactly cute.

We teachers know not everyone is focusing on class.
One good thing is no one has to know if you have gas!

Yes, it’s a crazy world, and even Zoom dating’s a thing,
while Zumping is the latest craze to dump a Zoom-time fling.

Congratulations on this deserved win of yours, Andrea. You certainly zoomed in on a winning buzzword! I had not realized that "zumping" is already part of the English language :) ~ Regards // paul

That is so sad to be zumped Andrea. It is bad enough to get the silent dump, but I would think that zumping is much worse.Lol you did an excellent job with this entry. Congrats on learning Zoom and on your win. I still haven’t figured it out. Blessings xxoo

The learning process has become boring and unproductive in this virtual world! Both passionate teachers and their students began finding it lifeless. I wish we go back to breathe the air of schools and classrooms where we can sing, dance, play and shout while we learn!!

Never mind me because my mind seems to think that the first couplet is a required or intentional intro followed by the poem You just have to love me and the workings of my mind.

Sweetheart, sorry to tell you the contest has a maximum of 16 lines. I think you're one couplet too many. I enjoyed the poem especially since we might do it to it. I don't know how to explain it but, to me, the poem has a lot of energy. I did call on Monday, sorry I missed you. Love ... CayCay

No Zoom, nor zest for remote zone fuze can replace the experience of a live, face to face classroom?Nicely observed, with your usual light touch and wit, Andrea.

Wow you sound like a pro to me, what a fun teacher you must be, whilst teaching your students what they have to learn, they are teaching you all the new trends, a win win situation from both sides. love and blessings, Jennifer.

I count on these moments as Zoom is annoying to me "Things can get crazy when somebody isn’t using Mute, and you might hear some background noises not exactly cute." and my camera is upside down on Zoom, so when my video is on all the others see is the ceiling unless I lean in and then they see me upside down.

Lol Zumping? That is funny Andrea. Fun poem. I don't know things about Zoom. I only remember the TV show in childhood called zoom. Lol. I hope all is well. Enjoy your zooming :)

Wow, Andrea, i'm like an old dusty frayed book left on a shelf, Buzz words escape me, in these days of cyber talk, so as well as a very interesting read, of your poetry, also takes me on a journey of learning, Belonging to the old school here on soup, i miss your interaction some what. But my respect for your poetry and opinions still remain..Love harry

I zoomed once with my doctor. After that I had problems with it at a book club meet, it was a desastre! I held up 17 people who were ready to start. Did you coin that term, Andrea? And good luck..I also must say nobody is too old for zoom, just learn it like everything else!

VERY cute poem. I've heard some interesting background noises from people who didn't know they weren't muted: crying babies, curious toddlers, conversations with spouses, swear words, barking dogs, and of course the occasional belch. Great write, bw in the contest.

I am not a Zoomer or am I fan of modern technology. I had messenger and in two days had to turn it off for all the dings I was getting. To much distraction from all this technology that we are losing ourselves in it. love phyl

Hmmm...I'm not a Zoomer, and I think I know why I wouldn't be after reading your poem, Andrea. I'm simply too old to take up these newfangled, technological ways! Best of luck in the contest.

Andrea, your clever couplet a lament of many teachers. I have a friend who is a teacher and your words certainly express the frustration of 'technology' teaching. With all it's pluses it has it's pit falls too.Your poem, filled with humor, the flip side of the down side of Zoom. :)Paulette
