Zero

How long does it take to count down to zero?
maybe the timer starts to tick when you become of age
when beauty becomes known as a defined standard
and perfect is never enough
perhaps the numbers rush down once you've fallen aware the body you hold does not look like theirs
that you are inadequate
does the countdown quicken when you run away your breath?
chasing far from the weight that holds you
will it decrease as your meals turn to rotten bile
stinging your throat with the remembrance of what will never be
all you want is to shrivel; skin shifting as your organs tighten and turn
and still there is no end to "thin" enough
so tell me,
when the never-ending days seem a constant cold, have you made it?
or once delicate hair begins to clump and clutter, isn't this what you wished?
after your stomach screams tirelessly through lonely nights, was it all worth it?
a size should not define who you are.
