Your Self

Within the confines of your very soul
Stands your Self.
Looking out at you and the world.

It sees your actions.
It is the one that tells you you're wrong.
It knows when you will be hurt.
It laughs when you do.
Cries when you don't follow your heart.

Self knows what you want.
What you don't get.
What you don’t allow yourself to achieve.

It knows why you are scared -
Scared to try.
Scared not to try.

It knows when you are tired.
Self knows you better than you think you do.
You try desperately to fit into the mould of Society.
But every accomplishment to fit into that mould
pulls you farther away from your Self.

The more you accomplish in the World
the quieter that little voice becomes.
Until it becomes only a tiny whisper.

Self knows you.
It knows why you are sad.
Talk to it.
Clear the World away, close the door.
Stand in the silence, in the dark.
Be your Self in the corner of your soul.
Then.. Listen as hard as you can.
It will answer you.

And you know what?

You'll thank your Self for it.
