Your Poet from Dreams
Your Poet from Dreams
When the thread of life grows thin and your light becomes more distant and more small,
I know that love has endured inside my bones like a flame that cannot die at all,
I searched for you a while through unwritten verses and through evenings of broken rhyme,
Asking myself where I went wrong... in the silence that consumes me every time.
What is love if not the enormous living flame that burns so quietly in us both,
A form through which we define ourselves... two people lost in the same rain and growth,
You told me I was your poet from dreams... but dreams are dreams and they move on,
And all my unwritten verses I would write them all... before the night is gone.
I carry you inside me like a caress without a word and without a border line,
Like a warm and gentle light that kept my life from cold in every sign,
And if death comes late to take me from the middle of my verses and my song,
Bring white flowers to my grave... and let them fall among the stars where they belong.
Perhaps one day in another setting and another fate we will look with fresh new eyes,
And perhaps inside our pain we will know how to love the way we dreamed beneath the skies,
The muses still speak to me in sleep and I can feel the love still pulsing through,
And I write now quiet and monotone... and my heart keeps dreaming still of you.
If we are never meant to be together... stay inside the verse... that is your eternal place,
Warm and peaceful like a long night's vigil full of tenderness and grace,
Eternal in my metaphors... in the rhymes that flow from the soul with pain and care,
The way only I ever knew you... in silence... and in love... and in the air.
The thread of life is ending... and I write one more verse... and then one after still,
Love has endured in me always even when the night was deaf and broken and ill,
I carry you inside me like the last light left inside an empty and forgotten place,
Your poet from dreams... writes... and falls silent... and loves you... and disappears... into grace.
