Your Mirror Has Two Faces

Your mirror has two faces — one,
The world would call — your own,
It smiles with practiced innocence,
And gleams — when you are known.

The other face — a secret one —
It flickers, pale — and shy,
It looks through glass — not at the world,
But at Eternity.

The one — will greet your visitors,
With ribbons, and a bow,
The other — whispers, when you sleep,
Of things you dare not show.

And though you turn — from both, in dread,
They never turn from you —
For Truth and Shadow share one frame,
And know what Mirrors do.

This reminds me so much of Dickinson, poet. I loved this.

Thank you very much, I have spent so much time reading the older poets and trying to come as close to their styles as possible. My favorite is Sara Tesdale. My best to you and again thank you. James
