Young Reader

The bell on the door woke the vendor mid snore
There seemed to be nobody there
But then when he looked a little bit more
He spotted the little lad’s hair

Hello there, Sonny, he said, it seems funny
To find a young lad in my store
I have children’s books for not too much money
So what is it you’re looking for

I came for a look for a nice picture book
For I don’t yet read very well
I want lots of pictures at which I can look
Is that something that you might sell?

Well, said the vendor, most books have some words
Even the picture books do
I’ve books about animals, science or birds
I should have the book just for you

But if I don’t have It just give me it’s name
And I’ll do my best to get that in
The lad said I don’t think the author found fame
But can you get ‘Nympho’s In Satin‘?

There are some picture books without words. The end is quirky, but you never know what a lad might ask for. Congratulations, Terry!

Very funny. Who is to say that reading is precocious? Kind wishes, Kai

Sounds like our young man doesn't need any books about the birds and the bees, eh?! lol. :)

I think the internet ensures that today’s kids know about the birds and the bees before we knew that birds and bees didn’t mean birds and bees. Thanks Gershon, Terry

LOL Well, I certainly wasn't expecting the last line! This is very funny, Terry. Wonder if the boy ever got his copy of "Nymphos in Satin." Enjoyed! Hugs, Carolyn

I’m chuffed that you liked this Carolyn. I’m just intrigued as to where in my head that title came from. Terry

Lol, been after that one for ages Terry, love the punchline at the end. Best of luck in the contest. Tom

You won’t find it on the shelves, more likely under the counter in a plain brown wrapper. Glad you liked, Tom. Terry
