Young Dreams
I love the sound of distant thunder
it takes me back to a river’s shore.
Young kids sparkling of wonder
learning life and wanting more.
Swinging high above the water
from a rope tied to a tree.
Living joy for the moment
wild eyed and feeling free.
Roasting coal and burning mallows
spilling secrets in the dark,
about pretty little things
in our hearts that cast a spark.
Lying awake under the moonlight
Dreaming of a future ahead.
A wild cat meows in the distance
would make us squirm in our bed.
Sleeping warm until the morning.
Waking up by the river’s shore.
Young kids sparkling of wonder
learning life and wanting more
Contest: little known nothing
