You Were Spoiled
I wanted a big canvas, great-grandma told me.
I am looking at her big picture book with her.
She has shown me lots of kids she thinks were here “back in the day”.
I was spoiled, she told me.
I was not happy with a small canvas.
They let me paint in my good clothes too.
I could not imagine wearing this ruffled lacy dress.
It could not have been comfortable to paint in.
You were spoiled I tell her.
She smiles, glad about it.
It is a connection, one of the few we have had.
