You Too Can Be a Poet
You Too Can Be A Poet
Dear Budding Poet,
Today modern poetry is a way to touch souls with a language that cannot be only spoken. It is a language that a writer composes from the heart, to the heart, the mind and the soul.
My advice to any novice poet is to embrace the urge to express your inner deep feelings in written form. It is therapeutic and will not only help you but people who may read it. Take notes and decide on a topic you favor. Formulate a story and a poetry style. Play with the words, speak them and when you are done hold the paper in your hand and read how it feels.
Poetry has allowed me to pull together thoughts of emotions and hold onto them in the physical sense. Like a painter or sculptor, words brought together to create living art. Art when read brings emotions back to fill my heart.
My favorite themes include humor, spirituality, God, animals, introspection and the unexplained.
My favorite reference sources: www.poetrysoup.com, www.poemhunter.com, www.teachjunkie.com and the dictionary.
My titles of favorite poems I have written: A Man Named Poe, Butterfly, Touch and See, Gallows, See You When You Get There, Lets Dance, Remember Me, Heavenly Romance, Whispers of the Night and One More Fish.
My literary background: I am a working husband of forty-two years, father of seven and a grandfather of many. I have dabbled in poetry since writing poetry for my mother as a young child. I write technical papers for work, have had a few articles published in the local newspaper and won an on-line poetry contest.
A possible title for this book: Your First Rhyme
