The View of the Church of Saint-Paul de Mausole, by Vincent van Gogh 1889

The sky reflected in the harvested field that laps up against the walls of the Church of Saint-Paul de Mausole. A surge of incriminating waves upon which the Word is cast, its roots in the church that’s defined in outline against the random aspect of the sky: a nirvana, or heaven – not to be dictated to by mere mortals. A modest harvest loosely stacked against the outer wall representing the total sum of souls still hoping for salvation, but excluded from the church’s close. You shall reap what you sow.

That'll be me, chapping the door looking for salvation and being told bluntly, no. Seemingly running by nine churches doesn't get you through the door. God does love a tryer though.

I think that we have the spirit of love and hope in all of us - we just need to listen ...

Today the harvest is abundant, but the laborers are few, more so than any other time in history because there are so many people in the world without God. Thanks for sharing this one with us and for dropping by my page. Sara

Thank you, DD. It is in a private collection after being sold at a record price - it was part of Elizabeth Taylor's art collection (gifted to her by her father).

An aside: Vincent's father was a pastor. Many of Vincent's letters to his brother, Theo, touched on religious themes.

Interesting. I would argue that salvation is dependent entirely on the Creator, and not on some church, though I understand why some might think that way. In any case, this is an awesome poem

The churches of Christendom are a cacophony of confusion. Each one blows a different trumpet. And don't get me started on the constant solicitations for money. Is it any wonder the waters of Babylon are drying up? By contrast, Jehovah's Witnesses have sounded a unified message in over 240 lands that God's kingdom under Christ is imminent (Matthew 24:14). Something to consider my friend

I agree that salvation is only through the shed blood of Jesus, His resurrection, and His ascension to heaven where He is seated next to the Father. But as it is written in the Bible, people cannot know without hearing the word and the word can't be given without a preacher (deliverer) and the church has to have a preacher so mostly the message comes through the church. Of course, we can all be a deliverer of the word if we will study so that we can share the plan of salvation to all we come in contact with each day. Our lives send a message to everyone. Sara
