You Promised
She hears the
Ole' green pick up truck
Pull into the
Parking lot.
She peeks her head
Out from under
The covers and
Sees him stumble
Into the apartment
Door.
She runs
Downstairs to say
Goodnight.
Questions why he was
Gone 3 hours and didn't
Even return with
The milk or bread
From the store.
She smells his
Breath
Fresh of liquor and
Smoke.
She notices that
He's swaying
Side to side.
Whats wrong
Daddy?
Why can't You
Walk?
I though You quit drinking
Daddy,
You said you
Were through.
You promised me
No more beer
You said You loved
Me o' so dear.
"I hate You daddy"
Written in black crayon
On her bedroom
Wall.
But that is forever
Erased now,
Thats forever gone.
