You Know When You Have a Real Friend
YOU KNOW WHEN YOU HAVE A REAL FRIEND
Friendship is a gift
offered to a few.
Some trample it to death.
Some treat it very cruel.
Some sell it for a dime
that took a million to yield.
Some trade it for a quarter
that took a billion to build.
To some, you're just a commodity
they can easily barter;
but a true friend gives you his life
and his heart and soul for a starter.
Friends love you as you are,
and keep your secrets sacred.
In youth, they light your star.
They never will forsake you.
In age, when adversity strikes,
they're there before you ask.
They never leave or desert you,
for they have dropped their mask.
They'll sit with you in the shadows,
and bring you home again.
Friends aren't trivial matters.
You know when you have a real friend.
