You Don'T Know What You Got Till It's Gone
“Don’t it always seem to go that you don’t know what you got till it’s gone...” from
the song Big Yellow Taxi by Joni Mitchell
Age four on the ice with double-bladed skates
Big sis skated slowly looking down at me
How well I remember the way she would wait
Always watching over me filled with such glee
When I was nine she married into money
Country club lifestyle, hand-sewn silver fox coat
Her branch took a split from our family tree
As the years passed, she grew more and more remote
How I miss those days when she would lend a hand
To a smiling child who was her devotee
Poor and not as pretty, I live in nowhere land
And my sis continues looking down at me
Dedicated to my sister, whose companionship and love I miss.
