Notes About The Poem

You Cry Alone

"laugh and the world laughs with you,
cry and you cry alone"

how true and sad these words once penned
for this I've learned, yet learn again
that when I bloom and smile with glee
the world and life will laugh with me
I'm not alone....never alone
the joy is not for me alone!

Yet when the demons heart possess
and come to steal my happiness
when all around is darkest gloom
and none to rescue from the tomb
I am alone.....I cry alone
the grief I bear....I bear alone!

I know your heart is bleeding too
for all have been unkind to you
and none can see the bitter tear
nor chase the goblin of your fear
You feel alone....you cry alone
the pain you bear...you THINK alone!

Now turn to me; remember this
I know this pain, this poisoned kiss
depression has a hold of me
and this I say with certainty
though other hearts are made of stone
you're not alone....NEVER alone!

A beautiful and touching poem, splendid in its execution; both content and technical aspects make it an impressive read. ~ You know what depression is, and have learned to live with it; with your words you can encourage others to do the same. Hugs // paul

Sweet Bambi, A brilliant rhyme on a hard subject. You have penned something dark and sad yet ending with hope. "You're not alone...NEVER alone!" Never alone. love Shane xxx

Thank you for visiting my poem, Shane. It is a difficult topic...one people shy away from. It's always good to know that there are people who will care and be by your side. Thanks for being such a person. :) Hugs

You have outdone yourself with this my little Desert Orchid. Luckily I am the eternal optimist, though I have people close that get this depression, and can see its effects. Take care, Richard

Thank you, Mr Seal...You are fortunate indeed to be the eternal optimist. That must be so lovely for you...You must be a joy to be around. Come and keep this depressed little girl company and let all that goodness and sunshine rub.....off on me.

Oh Eileen , this gives hope to anyone who tastes the bitterness of loniliness even if one is surrounded by a crowd ,yes He can feel even more alone , if he is not with the right people. Such a demanding world this is, but yes hope exists...I so love this poem , I favour it and our sweet exceptional artist Robin Williams..

"By myself, but not alone." -Metallica. Stunning, yet exquisitely reinforcing. This is how you end a "low" poem.

becca, I left a note for you where you asked me questions at my recent sonnet. I don't think my contest had asked for 7/7/5/5/7 specifically. I just like for there to be a good meter. Let me see if I can find an oldie of yours I have never read!

You did an amazing job writing to those who suffer depression or even occasional bouts with it. I think I told you before? my hubbie has this. I can't ever see myself having depression, just the kind everyone gets from time to time, a little sadness. VEry nice meter on this one too.

Oh...It's a truth that I've come to live with, Tim. People have forgotten what empathy is all about. It's really sad.....Thanks for the visit. Also, thanks for being kind enough to make this a favorite. Nothing pleases me more than when my work is appreciated.

Truth is spoken! There are a lot of things we do alone but still are those around us who care, some more some less but still there are people who care. When moments like that come we have to pray for strength and hope our prayers will be heard by someone near us so as to rush to our rescue. A wonderful didactic poem, dear Eileen.
