Notes About The Poem

You Cant Handle the Truth

You can’t handle the truth…

And so you lash out in pain
You hurt and you maim
Innuendo, the game
Flaming, you flame
What a shame!
A SHAME!

You can’t handle the truth…

And so you fabricate lies
Dress up a pretty disguise
Compliment mesmerize
Word trophy prize
Not wise
Not wise!

You can’t handle the truth…

And so you implicate
With hints you sedate
Your conscience placate
Pride vindicate
It’s still hate
It’s HATE!

You can’t handle the truth…

So you write a small rhyme
You cover the crime
Throw around grime
Slippery slope slime
On heartache you climb
Not this time
NOT THIS TIME….

Hi Eileen...before I came to the last stanza I had already decided that this was a cover-up...where lies and mud-throwing become shameful tools. But you won't have any of it, and with authority you put them in their place! Superwoman you are:) hugs // paul

Thanks, Paul....I have decided not to take it further. I had just posted a poem entitled, The Higher Road....It's on this same theme, you know what? Sometimes you just have to live above it all. Honestly, nothing will change....Opinions set, are opinions kept. Those who know me....know who I am. If they choose to believe slander...there isn't much I can do about it...except write a poem...and then delete it! HA HA! I'm a silly girl, but I won't cause undue pain. Hugs

You have an exceptional speaking voice. I think you could be TV show host.

Oh Richard....Thank you. I did radio work for some time and got great compliments. :) I don't know about TV! ;) Oh...but I'd love that. Hubby did use me to test the new cameras when they were setting up the TV studio for the Hope channel programs in Arabic. I did an impromptu program for women in English. There was a Canadian lady in the audience and she was very impressed...said I'm a natural. Maybe one day! Thanks! Hugs

Your rhyme scheme is exceptionally intelligent, bringing the rhyming and message so seamlessly together. Your smart anger makes you so sexy in this poem Eileen. Every strong man wants a woman who can defend herself with style and severity...this is honorably hot! J.A.B.

You make me believe in myself, Justin. It is the sweetest gift you give me...the belief that I am exceptional, beautiful, desirable, and smart. I'm always happy for your visits...the world is a better place because of them. Thank you, Justin. Hugs

Odd based on the content but there was something fun about reading this one. I like how it plays off the tongue.

:) How it plays off the tongue...Wish I could hear you read it, Richard! :) I remember your show with Drake. I loved calling in and talking to you....Finally knowing what you sound like. Hearing someone's voice adds so much to your perception of them, don't you think? Thanks for the lovely visit. I'm all smiles.

Yes, sometimes certain personality types consider truth as blame and they can't handle it. A common truth your poem points out with crystal clarity. A profound read Eileen. #7

I the rhyming structure is phenomenal!! In my own life, I can't tell you how many times I wanted to believe the lies . . . sad but true. I love the ending -- strong and powerful, the vision I see . . . standing on my two feet, hands on my hips, chin up . . . NOT THIS TIME. Encouraging and empowering -- another amazing write, my Little One. Also, I agree with Green Leaf below . . . light and love. 7

David, good to see your name here on my page. Glad you liked this piece. Phenomenal is a lovely adjective. Thanks for attaching it to my poem. :) Sometimes being the "nice" person just enables people to hurt you time and again. Innuendos get me the most upset....they are couched in flowery words, but the intent is clear...I feel like saying..."get real!" Anyway...thanks for the visit. I'm happy for it. Hugs

Eileen, A most powerful write indeed!! This write here does get the message across. You're right, sometimes there are people who can't handle the truth and try to shade things their way always. Great Write!! A Seven too!! Best Always, Gary
