You Are Silent Now

The chicks of the world chirped in trembling whispers,
The hen’s feathers had already thinned,
And the eagle’s footsteps echoed near the young ones,
Famine had grown weary,
longing to rest beside the health,
The hen who once knew the deep secrets of the roots,
had finally fallen still.

The sun dimmed its rays,
Darkness settled gently.
Pain and loneliness shook us,
Grief swallowed us whole,
pouring its weight through our tears.
Death struck us like a hidden blow,
a sudden mark revealing
that our mother had gone quiet.

We will cry, for mourning must be done.
Nothing new has happened —
Death was written long ago,
set in ancient times,
It came as the thief of life,
and when it takes life,
life returns to the Giver,
Peace becomes a living thing,
an eternal breath,
And the Holy Book stands witness:
Beyond the grave lies everlasting life,
So rest now.
