Yet to Win
Beneath the towering skyscrapers
lie the crowded slums :
the unchosen dwellers
have no share in the luxury
of glossy goods
and fragrant feasts.
They breath the city's dust
yet toil to build its wealth.
Poverty and illiteracy
still their dreams,
but their voices echo
through narrow lanes.
The poor cannot choose
life's swift course;
estranged, they meet
hopes forbidden,
courage divorced.
Political freedom was won,
but other freedoms
still wait at the threshold.
