Yesterdays News

disappointment wells within my chest,
filling the corners of my soul

eleven years of here, there, you first, me last,
being there when you needed

dismissed like yesterday’s paper, used for
clean-up but not worth the paper it’s printed on

never again. Knowing where you stand is a
powerful force

knowing how many steps behind to walk
when not to talk, all for your relief

ignored like a crying child whose parents don’t hear,
don’t want to hear, don’t care to care

eleven long years of trying to be important and just
now realizing it was a wasted effort

do not pity me, for I have learned a lesson most
never learn, my eyes are wide open for life
