Yesterday when I was young so many happy songs were waiting to be sung...
~Charles Aznavour
Tonight as I listen to the radio
a song reminds me of being once young.
Outside I hear the wind angrily blow
away the last residue of autumn
like the final note of a mournful song
lingering until at last it is done,
and I am alone with no songs of joy
to be remembered from a long lifetime
spent searching and finding only decoys
that have sent me to this edge of winter.
