Yellow Flowers
on a barren plain, the yellow flowers bloom
petals painted with sunlight that never shined
all the glory of the world gathered unfairly, although
how could a single bouquet ever manifest this?
verdant green questions boldly
a glimmer of life in the blanket of white
water and sugar in the veins flow
against the face of everything in this world
oh, how slowly they will wilt
a thief that has blossomed in spite of it all,
a shadow that stole the light of the world
and masked itself in that gold
the joyful sun amidst snow
turned its face away from the coldness
decided to hide itself so that
none would ever try to steal it again
one man who stood from the rest
reached for those who had pushed him aside
realized the selfishness of the rest
one man found the flower blooming in the snow
two beings alone in the winter storm
condemned as thieves by the rest
but the icy words of the masses cannot harm them
how sad that only they know
that the hordes that spit upon them
had tried vainly to reach for the sun
had tried to take it for themselves,
something that belonged to nobody
and now that the sun has departed their world
holstered up so that none but the worthy claim it
the yellow flowers bloom on a plain
sparks of the chosen amidst the snow of the rest.
