Yellow

yellow
usually a warning color
when paired with black

I had always resented yellow.
a sickening, overbearing shade
searing itself into my eyes

then she walked into the room.

yellow.
it was all I could see.
it was as if she had bathed in sunbeams
showered in sunflowers
dipped her toes in pure light.

she had pulled strips from the midnight sky
and woven them across the crown of her head

the sun and the sky had come alive
in glorious black and yellow
not as a threat
but as a blessing.
a warm glow
rather than a burning flame.
