Yearning
When I’m gone for a second,
all I want to do is run right back.
You don’t just cross my mind,
you outrun every thought I try to have.
You make me wonder if this is worth it,
loving without any guarantee.
But when we make eye contact,
my thoughts fade and my walls break.
Last night I almost called you
I wanted to step past the line
and see if you’d step toward me.
I guess it’s a tightrope between us
I know the ones before me hurt you.
I can’t make promises I can’t keep, but
I’ll give you everything I can
just like I know you would for me.
Maybe I’m imagining it, but
I see a sparkle in your eyes
every time we talk face to face.
I wish I could see it before I go to sleep.
I won’t confess just yet; I’ll take it slow.
I wanna do what I can to keep you around
whether we end up as friends or lovers.
