Year 3000 Extinction

Will the human race actually feel triumphant
with the extinction of our African elephant,

why don’t humans believe it’s preposterous
that Earth only homes two hundred Rhinoceros,

I being a human feel that I’m a total rotter
contributing to the demise of our giant otter,

do humans think land only belongs to man
creating inevitable extinction of Bornean orangutan,

shouldn’t wildlife be like sheep is to a shepherd
not to oversee the inevitable loss of Amur Leopard,

why do we rejoice, eager to explain our merits
hurrah saved from extinction the black footed ferrets,

we can always tell our children a fascinating tale
about the time we saw on Earth an amazing Whale,

explain what’s that human like creature when they see
a film or video of what was once a chimpanzee,

perhaps if we could stop killing ourselves and animals
then our planet will not seem such a desperate shambles.

I'm with you on this one, Roy. I never have understood senseless killing. I just don't see the attraction. Great write. The Bible teaches us, we are supposed to be good stewards of the land and i believe there is a special place in hell for those who are not.

Thanks Daniel, the poachers and the devastation of habitats are all funded by big corporations who are only interested in making money, I hope you are right and they do end up in hell, thanks again for your support much appreciated. :)

Litterally brings tears to my eyes. The lack of ducks on my river is breaking my heart daily. I've written quite a few on topic, you might enjoy a poem of my own to celebrate our due demise, Mother Knows, one of my earliest posts. I hope you see something beautiful and wild today :)

Thanks Maureen, I agree to lose any of our wonderful creatures forever is heartbreaking, with approximately 20,000 elephants killed every year, they are certainly at risk, thanks again for your support much appreciated. :))

So sad Roy how man is wiping out species' for gain, its a joke how some countries believe powdered rhino horn makes them a better man ,really!. Done one a while back called the animal trade. Hopefully raising the issue might make people think twice about buying goods made from animals.Well done Roy. Tom

Thanks Tom, I was inspired to write this when I read that there were only 200 Rhinos on the planet, how can we allow this magnificent animal to become extinct? thanks again for your support much appreciated. :))

Thanks Silent one, many more animals are looking at extinction, perhaps natural resources will decide our fate. :))
