Written At Bed On A New-Spring’s Night

This long lovely room.
This priceless solitude.
This quiet night.
Outside, behind this cottage, beautiful babbling of the brook,
And by this window, these damp gushes of the wind
Blowing from there, the nearby forest.
And by this windowpane
The scene,
A snowy forest and full moon
Across the bare branches of big walnuts.
A prolonged and harsh winter is somehow over And a new spring is on.
It is all over beauty in life,
A hundred reasons to rejoice for all, but
This all ah! Whispers into my soul’s ear,
A message inner!
