Worth It
October 2019
I wrote a poem.
Reading it,
I know it was about you.
"Took one look at you
And I knew
That my heart would be broken
But I believed it would be worth it."
I find it after midnight,
scrolling through my notes.
I read it once,
And I know.
It was worth it.
Meeting you,
Liking you,
Loving you.
If it never happened,
And you didn't break my heart,
If I never let you
use me over and again.
If I wasn't a doormat,
Or a wallet.
If I wasn't all the things
I never should have been...
I wouldn't have become
The woman I am now.
I'd have grown a little differently,
Maybe a little worse.
I would
Never have discovered
My true worth.
I would have lived
In the dark corner of my head,
The one I never left.
Meeting you had been my highlight,
Liking you had been my chance,
Loving you was my everything,
But realizing the truth was my escape.
It was worth it,
Knowing it got me here.
