Worth Dying For

The lament of a Summer breeze is heard to make the gilded leaves of Autumn sigh. And after months, without a single word, Hope lost its wings and could no longer fly. Shadows join silhouettes in the moonlight; tethering wishes and prayers to dreams. And grieving her husband, she cries all night, as loneliness fuels her silent screams. She remembers the sweet taste of his kiss and the way that he left her heart fulfilled. He swore; he'd write daily without remiss, and the day he didn't, she knew he'd been killed. She never questioned why he'd gone to war; for she knew freedom was worth dying for.

Romantic yet, so sad; war has ruined many a life; leaving only memories. Well penned.
