Words Hurt Too

Pain comes in the oddest of forms Through sunny days and bad storms Words are worse than any hard hits They are hard to swallow, just like grits The pain can last for days or years It soon begins to feed all your fears It turns good dreams into nightmares It makes it seem like nobody cares About your life or your broken dreams Your faith in love is lost it seems Words do damage the eyes can't see It makes being happy so very hard to be It turns the world of hope inside-out It feels like everything is full of doubt Even if it's sunny and bright outside Under the covers you want to run and hide Friends always ask you why the long face Because you sit and stare into outer space To tell the cause of your personal hell Would put their friendship up for sale Words are best given with compassion Never in anger, not in any fashion
