Words Get Impatient

Words pound on my chest, demanding attention.
I barely notice, I am in full REM sleep.
In full snooze, release gas never never land

Words get impatient.
Call my name, loudly. I do not flinch.
So they begin to sing and rhyme.

Damn! This gets me every time.
I cannot resist rhyming words.
But wait, I am not ready so I shut my eyes again.

Trying to relax, which is impossible
As words begin a melody around the room,
Saturating the walls, permeating my soul.

Not taking no for an answer, Words laugh.
My eyes open. I hear the last sentence of maybe my best poem ever.
It is another poem that got away of course.

My muse is always on fire
and busy when in the throes
of deep sleep.

My muse wants to be awake all night long which would be no big deal if I was retired, but I am not!
