Words
Words we should not have written
Words we should not have said
Which have taken place in history
Remain locked inside our heads
Times balm it may soothe them
As we inter them within our soul
But we are not santioned to forget them
As they rupture from their hold
If only we could turn back the hours
We would rewrite them, unsay them true
Do anything not to have uttered
Or penned the offending truth
They can destroy love and friendship
These hapless, shapely signs
They show so much of our thoughtless selves
These words we should have left behind
But their meanings are our legacy
Which our hearts must strive to hide
As we endeavour to live each day
We show the world a salve, a smile.
