Woodland

In the forest where the sun beats
upon trees that have stood over time
Battered for years withstanding the elements
each season bringing a new look to the ever changing landscape
Becoming home to millions of birds and insects that thrive within
The ripening fruits of spring bring in nature's bounty
A feasting time, red clusters of ripe berries growing in the underbrush
As the mist rises , the sun breaks through branches in yellow lemon shades
The multitude of leaves become a natural camouflage for insects to survive
Eroded landscape, a reminder of eons that have passed
Dead limbs tell of a tortuous past , it's failure to thrive,
A place where man's footsteps once passed, stepped on, survived
Shaded areas, where moisture gathers, scrub and grasses overgrow
A place for hunters to lie in wait, amongst the green lush growth
As seasons ever change, this forest continues to thrive
Tuffs of grass, withered and dry, eroded hillsides carved away
Broken shale, where a blade of grass refuses to grow
A peaceful place that thrives all nature bestows.

This is great Phillis. I`m a nature lover too. There is just so much beauty everywhere in nature. We just have to open our eyes and see it. God Bless, JB

Phyllis, talk about beautiful... a very rich forest through your words. Extream dryness and eroded hillsides will always bestow illusions of beauty, the way nature intended. I love every line here.. thanks for sharing,. God bless,..p.d.

Dear Phyllis, my "goliath" grouper was a baby at 50 pounds. Struggled with another for half an hour before it broke the hook. The captain said that one weighed at least 300 pounds. Couldn't have listed that one. Glad you had a nice trip! Thanks for stopping by. Finally got approval for the MRI this coming Thursday. Had to make quite an effort to get the insurer to pay for it, but hopefully it will reveal the cause of the nerve damage. Love and blessings, Carolyn

Beautiful imagery, Phyllis. I love your attention to detail. I didn't know what a cougar was either, LOL.

A magnificent description of this forest, Phyllis. Love the philosophical lines about the dead limbs and the footsteps that once passed, stepped on and yet survived. Feeling a bit better today and am trying to catch up on some comments. I did catch a Goliath Grouper, but they're endangered, so I took the hook out of its mouth and returned him to the sea. My health problems are not related to the fishing. I sat on the back of the ship's deck and caught lots of great fish to eat. Love, Carolyn

I like the way you made your entry all about the forest itself and how it goes on and on despite whatever is going on around it in the world. " A peaceful place that thrives all nature bestows." indeed, Phyllis. And welcome back! Glad to see your comments today. Luv, Andrea
