Notes About The Poem

Woke Up Lonely

Woke Up Lonely

Today I woke up lonely
just like a long lost friend.
We sat and talked awhile
I asked him how you been?

He tried to force a smile
and I began to realize.
He could use a haircut
and he had haunted eyes.

He said that he's been searching
for a love to call his own.
But now days he's decided
he's meant to be alone.

I told him stories that I know
of love that went all wrong.
He said that only happens
when love that's found ain't strong.

He told of things that he has seen
and places that he's been.
I saw a single teardrop fall
he said he can't go home again.

I asked him where will you go?
What are you going to do?
Lonely then just shook his head
said he wished it all was through.

He said there's nowhere he can turn
no place he needs to be.
And that's when I told lonely
that he could stay with me.
