Within My Goodbye

Within my goodbye laid a fragment,
A grey-blue wildflower
Plucked from my being,
From the endless blossoming fields
You helped me grow.
Within my goodbye was a piece of me.
You walked away with it clutched tightly
In your fist,
And I knew then that something was missing
Something was stolen.
And I'd never get it back.

I love the image of the flower picked from your being - such a great way to describe what it feels like. Congrats on your placement with this lovely poem.
