Witches Woes

They circled her with flowers
They prodded her with knives
Because of unproved powers
Jealousy of their wives
Judged by every man
For doing nothing wrong
Stories tell the tale
Of every witches song
Children voiced the threat
A verbal open lie
The accused hadn’t a chance
Confess and simply die
Crushed and stoned
And sometimes burned
No proof for punishment
No lesson learned
A hopeless sad life
Their names carved in Stone
Ashes swept away
Where once hair and bone

It's so tragic that so many women were killed for witchcraft! Some out of ignorance/superstition, some for other reasons such as envy or such other pettiness. This is such an excellent piece you have penned! Well done, my friend! Hugs. Pandita

Thank you very much Pandita. Incredible the ignorance of mankind and the fears they had.
