Witches Woes

They circled her with flowers They prodded her with knives Because of unproved powers Jealousy of their wives Judged by every man For doing nothing wrong Stories tell the tale Of every witches song Children voiced the threat A verbal open lie The accused hadn’t a chance Confess and simply die Crushed and stoned And sometimes burned No proof for punishment No lesson learned A hopeless sad life Their names carved in Stone Ashes swept away Where once hair and bone

It's so tragic that so many women were killed for witchcraft! Some out of ignorance/superstition, some for other reasons such as envy or such other pettiness. This is such an excellent piece you have penned! Well done, my friend! Hugs. Pandita
