Wishful Or Wistful

A question for you to reference
  Are you wishful or wistful
O, but there is a difference
Let me give you a list-full

A wistful person looks to the past
He perceives it as vastly superior
If only the "good old days" had lasted
  Nowadays are simply inferior

A wishful person peers far ahead
And while accused of "wishful thinking"
He hopes that couples in love will wed
  That peace and prosperity spread...

So now that you know if you wish or you wist
May whatever you do be sun or star-kissed

Such a lovely ponderance, Gershon. I feel, I swing both ways, lol. Happy Wednesday!

Thank you for the insight, Pashang. I actually had not noticed this one-letter difference myself. Best wishes, Gershon

A lovely poem Gershon - I prefer to look forward rather than back in time so I will take wishful. Read Heid's POTD, she broke my heart. My thoughts are with her constantly, but so are God's. Blessings Gershon and stay well. Jennifer.

Yes. Heidi's case is heart-breaking. She lives in a 'medical desert,' so to speak. Let us pray for her return to health. Thank you for your support, Jennifer! :) gw

Yes! I love the meaning of both words, Gershon, and I especially love the way they are juxtaposed. An amazing poem with a great finale. I am both wishful and wistful.. I think it has to do with being a Libra and balancing the scales.. :) Your thoughtful poetry is always unique and always enjoyed! Warmest wishes, my insightful friend.. ~Susan

Never realized that you and I are both so well-balanced: You are a Libra and I am bi-polar -- In the daytime I am sunny and cheerful; at night my fangs come out! :) Werewolf

I am both I suppose...I look to the past for memories or lessons lived...I look to the future for better days sometimes...or see others in years to come... love this, it made me think and reflect... hugs and blessings!

Yes, you are a thoughtful, reflective soul who (yet) looks eagerly to the future as well --- an unusual combo... I had looked at 'wistful' in a negative sense, of wanting what never could be again, but you've pointed out the positive side of the word, that one can retrieve, learn and benefit from the lessons of the past! THANK YOU! Good health and good cheer, dear friend. :) gw
