Winter's Humour

The clouds were moody
the sun refused to shine
the dark days of winter
hung around with dread
coldness kept rolling in
refusing to let warmth
follow in it's footsteps
the cold tried to beat
a record it had set before
with water freezing in mid air
it laughed without a care
once the record was beat
it decided to let warmth in
only to find the humour
of a day before it swept in
with a freezing blowing wind.

I enjoy Winter I must admit especially as climatic change has brought about summer temperatures of 42, 43 or 44. Love your poem, and the last line makes this poem what it is, an excellent write. Hugs and blessings, Jennifer.

Smashing piece Phyllis, really good look at your hard winter with fine imagery and insightfulness. Over here in Scotland, we had snow showers on Friday but not as bad as forecast. Blessings, Gordon

Winter's humour does not always appeal to me, Phyllis, but your poem does! Luckily, so far, our Maltese winter has been better than expected, and these past days have been like spring. ~ Warm regards // paul

I can relate to this Phyllis. We have had a harsh winter, very cold, dumped on with snow, then fortunate to have one mild week. Now back to the cold. Well written poem! Take care. Let's hope Spring comes early. :)

We have heard on CNN about your freezing temperatures - climate change has seeped under our doors. In Johannesburg we have had no summer this year and we start our hot days in November, and it is now February. A hot day here and there but by 90 percent, cool days and cold nights, and rain, day in and out, unknown to be like this ever before in South Africa. Hugs and blessings, Jennifer.

It seems the temperature is trying to make an adjustment and all are having different types of weather. Yes a long stretch of freezing which makes you want to stay inside. Hope you get some sunshine. love phyl

It has been an extremely cold winter and we will get an odd day where it will be melting and then go back up to the -30. Have been inside for over 2 weeks and don't want to go into the cold. Where is spring? love phyl
