Winter's Anticipation

So still are your bare branches
That once was an emerald canopy
Now a woven nest rests empty
With tussles of a straw and strings
Victim to the wind, it sings
Lifeless
While you waver dormant and cold
Clay and metal pots turned over so bold
The afternoon shadows them, abandon of life
Rattling with strife
While they wait for blankets of snow and sleet
To cover them so discreet
The gardens delight no longer
Rotten tomatoes and such smell stronger
Sepia soil mixed with flimsy leaves
Destine to fly into the arms of winters thieves
And the days grow shorter
Another season another quarter
Rest warm in your domain
While life slows down deep in your brain

Hello Laura A lovely write as usual. Yes, winter is here, with it comes all the foreseen changes. It's funny here in Alaska we have snow but the berries are still on the bushes. The birds eat them get tipsy and fly into windows. Enjoyed this very much. Happy Holidays to you and yours. Love Light Truth Patricia
