Winter Soulscape-Potd

dark, grim sky and soul
          lone crow, flys all alone
          rain wet, liquid coal

Pangie, a big wow for this haiku! Your poetic expression is growing all the time, this one is so soulful and the imagery of the lone crow is doubly dark. 'Liquid coal' really sticks out as an original and evocative phrase. You should be very proud of your talent. Going in my faves, and a big congrats for your POTD! Hugs ~ John

Holy Guacamole! Going in your FAVS. A double thank you.I am glad you see me growing, I hope to pen more like this. Life does not have to be all about happy Haikus, I am sure. But ..how this one came to me is out of the realm of my understanding, thats fine.))) My poetry is undergoing a sizzling transformation, IMHO...few will notice it with the depth you have I feel I am on a Starship, headed in a nouveau Direction in another galaxy, Pangie Thank you

This poem touches the depth of my spirit. The grim sky with the solo crow is quite an image. Liquid coal brings more thoughts to dwell on. It can mean so much to different people. Congratulations on POTD. Madelyn McKay

Hi Madelyn...glad you caught the power, this one can be interpreted in many ways. After I wrote it, I doubted posting it, but had tbe strange sense it was a winner. And so...it was. Is my Fav poem I ever wrote, I have grown weary of long, poetry. It no longer moves me. It's great to get a POTD.but one must keep exploring new forms! Be well, my friend! PANAGIOTA

Be still my heart....I love rhyming Sedokus )))) How absolutely sweet of you to suggest this be a POTW, David. You must be some Poet to catch the cadence and the on purpose starkness. Adding you to my to follow list. You understand me. Poetry is far more than Norman Vincent Peale. Its a wide world..,Though I like those as well...wrote thousands of uplifting poems. Pangie

Oh my !! Your description of Winter is dark and dreary. I know the cold chill changes our countenance. Perhaps I see things differently, as Winter is a Wonderful season to embrace- in its own way of course. Congratulations Panagiota, on Poem of the Day. :) Brandy

Its meant to show the other face of winter. It really is a mood evoker far beyond Frosty the the snowman. Ching Ching LOL. Both are valid. I don't walk about thinking this. The haiku just hit me. Honestly, Brandy, I have 18 pages Of woo- Hoo poetry. Shakespeare wrote Hamlet, hardly a ha ha work. But he was quiets a varied poet. It's how a Poem is constructed that counts plus nuances. This has nuance.glad to find a new Poet side in me....)) thank you,,,,,Pangie

Here in California it is dark and dreary but far from what you are going through. I spent 35 years in Chicago winters, snow, ice and bare trees... Yikes. I longed for the Soring. It was astonishingly lovely. Ca is like Spring all year. Now is colder but no bare trees though. No boots..no ice. Hope to see you again...will put you on my to follow list. Pangie. I have 1' 825 poems done in 19 months. Now coasting! Pangie

Panagiota, 'rain wet, liquid coal'. That line is marvelous. It reminded me of something lost, perhaps from childhood. What better reason for poetry is there? -Richard
Romios Avatar
January 4, 2021 at 3:57 AM
Richard, thank you. I do agree on that line)))" It does have a unique meaning. Each poet sees what they see. It came up by itself and suggests anything the reader sees. I get worn out with poems being the bluebird of happiness.))) I have penned many of those.)) winter and I are not best friends. It shows in this poem. Nothing more, Pangie##
