Winter Jasmine

Well-favored Winter Jasmine,
how have you managed to survive?
It's long past the briskness of Autumn days.
Yet, your exquisite beauty lingers, and you thrive,
lovely petals still intact when you shouldn't be alive.

Oh, wondrous Winter Jasmine,
your plant has lost leaves of jade green.
Such a picturesque paradox within my garden,
botanical glowing when moonlight casts a sheen
upon you, creating the glint of a glimmering scene.

My perfect Winter Jasmine,
as white as the day you bloomed
on your stout stem you still stand tall,
scenting the air around you, softly perfumed.
Visions of you laced with snow, my eyes consumed.

Winsome Winter Jasmine,
I fear you're encapsulated in ice.
Not grown in freezing tundra on earth
like alpine flowers of stark white, edelweiss.
I hope your stunning show has not been a sacrifice.

Enduring Winter jasmine,
I hope you remain until Spring.
When you are warmed by the sun,
to your greening bush will you still cling,
attracting pollen seekers; honeybees on the wing?

Dear Lin, this is absolutely gorgeous as always, youve used the prompt so well here and written an ode to the winter jasmine in such a seamless manner! And i love how youv paired words and also how youv started each stanza giving such a catchy cadence to your lines! I especially loved the lines “Such a picturesque paradox within my garden,” “like alpine flowers of stark white, edelweiss. I hope your stunning show has not been a sacrifice.” so heartfelt and soul touching and as always theres an elegance in your way with writing! Congratulations on your well deserved win! Thank you for supporting my contest.

Ink, I always enjoy writing for your contests because they allow poets to reach into places they may not normally explore. So, thank you for finding my entry worthy of a placement on your winning list. I'm appreciative of your in-depth comments and that you always mention lines that appealed to you the most.

Dear Lin, Sorry I have been away for a couple of weeks and also dealing with the worst lingering cold ever. As far as your poem: enchanting! The way you’ve captured Jasmine's resilience and beauty through powerful imagery is stunning. I could almost smell its soft perfume and see it glimmering under moonlight. Lin, I believe you may have a winner! Winter Blessings, My Dear Friend, Daniel
