Winter Blues
I wake in the middle of a cold winter night
Light flickers across the ceiling from flames nearby
Winter blues burst from my realm of sleep
Tears of doubt fall, how to face another frozen day
Feeling misunderstood in this darkness
Grasping for words that often land on deaf ears
Sadness spills inside, from seeing slate colored skies
One day after another, as winter takes hold tightly
I wonder when the frigid air will not reach within
Squeezing my heart like a thief of warmth
Reminding me trees are bare and life can be empty
I long for brightness of spring to waken my spirit
To fill me with joy, like flowers with vibrant colors
To erase the dark images looming day and night
When transformation flickers like the flame I see
Waving above me, back and forth, as I wait
For life to capture the warm sunlight from East to West
And these blues hanging on, let go with winter’s goodbye
