WINTER

Winter,time of Persephone's doom
Plants die when Pluto her does entomb

Up on earth Demeter weeps
And her seasonal vigil keeps

With Pluto's spell over and broken
Life on earth will again be woken

That is the price of one eaten seed
To which Persephone paid no heed.

So, shrouded is earth deep with white snow
When she plays the part of queen down below

Once the hostage gains her brief release
Anew the land becomes green with ease

That cycle will repeat evermore
And we that season needs must endure
