Winding Down

Winding down after a lonely day
of people around me with nothing to say
Windows shut tight to keep summer at bay
Plants wilt with no human breath.
Blue blazing air coolers, unnatural breeze
fogging up window panes, like some disease-
Wait 'till my toes are on popsicle freeze
before I warm them on the steps.
Airplanes catch up with their twin engine sounds-
Balloons from the neighbors pop, popping in rounds-
Peek over fences at undisturbed grounds,
weeds lie in lace over grass
The end of my day finds my bed calling me
I sink into comfort of natural decree
There's nowhere I know I would rather now be
as I peel the day's doldrums, at last...
