Wind Chimes

I had forgotten about the wind chimes
until the deep tones brightly chimed
in the wind and I felt a deep comfort
knowing that the chimes, a berevement gift,
brought forth the thought of my beloved son
and someone who wanted to honor his memory

That is a very moving and poignant free-verse poem. It beautifully articulates how a simple, unexpected sound—the deep tones of the wind chimes—can suddenly conjure the memory of a loved one and bring a feeling of deep comfort. Highlighting that the chimes were a bereavement gift ties the auditory experience directly to the powerful, comforting intention of the person who wanted to honor his memory.

Lovely poem, Kathleen. I’m sorry for the loss of your son. May the wind chimes bring you comfort.
