Wild Horses

Here's a time honoured expression Wild horses couldn't keep me away Methinks that's pretty much a fallacy Their power is an awesome display Wild horses are majestic animals Roaming free o'er the plains of Nevada Manes flowing, hoofs a-pounding They perform their lively cantata Aristocrats of the animal kingdom Called Mustangs in the U.S.A. In Australia they're known as Brumbies Each performs an equine ballet Reclusive high-spirited stately stallions Reside on a huge open range This pompous and regal force of nature A beauty that resists being tamed © Jack Ellison 2012

I was privileged to see some wild horses in Nevada. Such beautiful, powerful creatures indeed. "A beauty that resists being tamed" Perfect ending line. Always, Laura

I like watching horses myself. They really are majestic. I like the rhymes in this poem and the way it brings horses to mind. Good job on the last line; it sums the poem up well.

This is a good poem about wild horses. I have never seen a real life wild horse, only in movies. They are beautiful creatures. Thanks for sharing. Lucilla

I had to choose this one to read, all because of my love of horses. Even though I haven't had much personal dealings with them, I am amazed by their strenth, beauty and gracefulness. Your poem brings vivid images of these wonderful creatures, Jack. Thanks for the visit. I pray you're doing well. Always, Annalise

Loved this. My Grandmother was called Pecos. she lived on the Pecos River. They said she could ride anything. My dad worked summers on the ranch. He said if you told those work ponies to giddy up... They'd hunker down and explode out from under you. You had to be a good rider to stay on asthey worked the cattle... I had 3 horses during my life. One lived to 32 1/2 years old.... And she was the onery one... L.O.V.E those horses as much as I love your poetry! LOL Both are wild things... Snicker.

I enjoyed reading your poem today...horses are and have long been considered among the noblest of creatures, a true boon to humans and certainly beautiful creatures!
