Wide Open

Hours drift by Yet here l still lie Eyes and mind wide open Desperate for sleep Counting Little Bo-Peeps sheep Eyes and mind wide open Frustrated and forlorn For now it is dawn Eyes and mind wide open Soon it is time to rise I will be the walking dead in disguise Eyes and mind unopened!

I don't suffer from insomnia, Deb, but there are nights, especially during our summer heatwaves when I can relate to this poem of yours (and then mosquitos too come to have their say!). ~ Regards // paul

From 'wide open' to 'unopened,' our newest episode of that timeless TV soap opera, 'The Edge of Night!' Starring Deb M, BB, and Little Bo-Peep. Let's go for it, Deb... If the musical -- ahem -- group, 'the Monkees,' had a TV show, why can't we? (Perhaps because are they are way less talented, thus appealing to the average couch potato? lol). ~ gw

A poem of insomnia that I believe we all suffer from occasionally. I enjoy the sense of comradery that the poem engenders.

Dear Deb, Your poem is so relatable and brilliantly crafted. Your portrayal of sleepless nights and the frustration that comes with them is spot on. The repetition of "Eyes and mind wide open" perfectly captures that restless feeling, and the ending twist made me smile. Your poem is both poignant and witty. Keep writing—you have a great way with words! - Blessings, My Friend, Daniel
