Why Should I Be Them

I'm not another statistic I'm someone who is optimistic But, still realistic And literarily artistic Don't wanna be another statistic Another stupid black youth On trial being sworn in to telling the truth Another quote, unquote "black" On the corner selling weed, crack, smack You see them fools? Thinking they're a star 'cause they make the evening news They want me to be anotha 'Cause if I don't I'm not considered a " brother" They want me to be another To either buy the drug, make it, or sell A poison, that should send them all to hell But that won't be me Droppin out of school to later study for a GED But that will be me later Graduating highschool, then college, and getting my degree I don't understand why they want me to be them Nothing good ever comes to them Except for the easy tax free bread But in the end they all end up, shot up, locked up, or dead So why should that be me? Do you know me? Because if you did, you'd know that will never be me

Gripping words, very nice. Never let anyone tell you who you are or should be. And good job on breaking the mold, it is a very hard thing to do, trust me I did it too. Keep you head up, ~Chris
