Why Is That Knife There

Why is a knife on my porch railing?
I stare at it.
Daring it to tell me how it got here.
The knife is silent.

A red switchblade knife.
It looks ominous; it seems threatening.
It stares me down. I can barely take my nap.
It has won.

It probably belongs to the neighbor who is cutting his grass on Saturday. He plans to use it for protection if you should decide to attack him.
