Why I Love Cd's Poem: Comfortable Love

Author: Carolyn Devonshire Submitted to Andrea Dietrich's uncontest Comfortable Love Some painters challenge us with art abstract We study them and speculate intent My love, he takes the short route; it’s a fact He speaks three words, no question what he meant The intellectuals look for new ways To speak of love in words no one has heard Or verse for songs that no one ever plays For love is truly greater than a word His aqua eyes convey a heart that’s true On chilly nights, his warm arms hold me close No words he speaks, but do not misconstrue When love is true, who needs the grandiose We’ve learned to find peace in the quiet time Together any steep path we can climb Why this poem is my favorite poem by Carolyn Devonshire: Carolyn and I shared a love for the sonnet form. I always enjoyed reading her sonnets (she has 57 of them at Poetry Soup!) and she was always supportive and encouraging when she commented on mine. She wrote her sonnets with a graceful flow, and was always conscientious about precision of rhyme and meter (an attribute I greatly appreciate). Here she speaks of keeping love genuine and simple with words from the heart. Her musings on love always feel personal and real. If you desire to read another sonnet by Carolyn, I would highly recommend one of my other favorites of hers, First Love. Thank you dear Carolyn, and may you rest in peace with God forever.

This poem of dear Carolyn’s is also a favorite of mine. So is her poem First Love. Her talent shines in all of her poems. We shared a wonderful personal friendship. It was so nice of Andrea to remember her with this uncontest. I did not see it in time or I would have posted one of my favorite poems of hers. I miss her every day. Carolyn planed to visit me here in Hawaii, but sadly we ran out of time. I love what you wrote about Carolyn. I learned so much from reading her poetry. She and Andrea inspired me to try writing sonnets. I hope to meet up with her again one day on the other side. Blessings xxoo

You are such a dear friend to all your poet friends. To think you actually knew the exact number of her sonnets and cared to tell us that. It speaks volumes to your caring nature and also your attention to details. I really love the sonnet of hers that you chose to portray the love in her soul. Thanks for contributing, john

Dear friend, this uncontested was such a generous and winsome idea. First, because it highlighted so many of Carolyn's best poems in a way that allows the Soup family to remember her. Second, because you took the time to write such kind and encouraging remarks for each entry. Thank you for sponsoring, and for being such a wonderful friend.
