Why Even Bother?

Sure, one could try once, twice,
A thousand times to make sense
Out of fuzzy math, but that is akin to
Sticking out one's tongue to taste
The food one cannot eat; might as well
Put down the pen and close the book.

Nah, Edward. We can’t give up and put down our pens. As writers, we have poetic license to write in any style and about anything we choose. It’s not like Math where there’s no leeway to what’s right and wrong. You made your point in your lines.

This is a wonderfully succinct and relatable piece of wisdom! Your use of enjambment smoothly pulls the reader through the ongoing struggle to make sense of things, right up to that resolute final line. 🔣 The metaphor of sticking out one's tongue to taste unattainable food is such a striking, visceral way to capture the frustration of a futile effort. 👅☣️ Beautifully penned.

after I ran out of fingers the math was always fuzzy and as kids we would salivate looking into the bake shop window.
