Why Do We Write Poetry
>Why do we write poetry?
Why do we write poetry? Enter competitions, galore.
Is it to seek glory? Or be in print for evermore?
I wish I knew the answer. I really wish I did.
As I would keep on writing I really do not you, kid.
I mean, is it really for the money? Wife needs a house by the sea.
I have enough for one brick. Yet need lots more, you see.
I do place poems on Poetry Soup, to see what other Poets say.
And when I’m feeling brave myself! I comment on what others say.
And now I have now made one of two. I will make no more today.
Just in case they read mine. And blow that house away.
Now I’ve published many books. Something anyone can do.
Yet how can all those mistakes. Pass the proofreading, you do.
Well not you, as it’s me and that is a problem, you see.
As if you are a poet, you should not check your own poetry.
Unless you do it carefully, unlike me, you see.
As each time I checked my books, I find letters where they should not be.
And that set me thinking I could set a competition myself.
Awarding glory to those who find mistakes, in my books on their shelves.
Stanley recently horribly mentioned in Poetry Soup. Dragon I said honourably mentioned. lol<
