Why Are We Here

I was so lucky to have found a writing nook,
A place to express my joy, sorrow, and pain.

I wear my heart on my sleeve, an open book.
My safe haven sheltered me from the rain.

Having a space to write has been good for me,
But these days it has not been what it once was.

Insults and name-calling is what I often see,
Why disrespect another poet just because?

I don’t agree with many, but still, I show respect
We are all different and we have different views.

But we shouldn’t be mean, that’s the disconnect.
All of this hateration is giving me the blues.

I stay because of my writing and my soup friends,
But I long for the day when it’s like it used to be.

Until then all that love poetry let’s raise our pens,
And write things that uplift and bring unity.

Yeah, it's gotten a bit hairy lately... I try to keep my nose clean and my pen out of it. Here's to you, Alexis!

I do agree with you Alexis, no one should be insulted or put down, we all know is what harm it can do, we don’t need to spell it out, it happened to me long ago by someone who should have known better (not on a poetry site) and I wanted to do away with myself, thank goodness I didn’t… Belle

One must never insult any one, If you disagree don't comment. Move on.

I think it's ok to defend our beliefs. I am simply against name calling and being deliberately mean. This has been going on since i first came to Soup over ten years ago, Alexis. i have seen some horrible bullies come and go. OH MY

Hi Andrea, I agree a person can defend their beliefs. In most cases, folk won’t see eye to eye, and that’s ok. That’s when we must agree to disagree. Name-calling and being mean because a person’s views differ from yours is uncalled for. We must show respect no matter. As far as you are concerned I’ve always respected you, I echo what Milt said:-) Alexis

Andrea, although you and I obviously disagree on some current issues, I think you are one of the sweetest people on this site. There is not an ounce of meanness or nastiness in you. You are also, head and shoulders, one of the best poets on this site. I greatly admire and respect you.

I agree wholeheartedly, Alexis. How wonderful it would be if we were all writing our best poetry, instead of having to defend what we feel is right. But...we must stand up for what is right when someone is persisting on hatefulness, nastiness, insults, and bullying. I suppose that is just the world we live in.

Well said Alexis, it's a poetry site not a place to trade insults, no wonder so many fine poets have left this site. Hope you're well. Tom
